I don’t know about anyone else, but I really hate saying the word Blog out loud. I think it sounds like a horrible word, more like something you are spewing up than something thatis something interesting and good. I consider myself a content manager, or freelance writer, more than a professional blogger. When talking about blogs, I try to use the word “website” or “online journal”, as I really think the word Blog sounds strange, and just not nice to the ears.
Am I crazy? Maybe, but I think a better word should be chosen for web logs, or digital publishing that sounds nice to the ears and is less of a blah kind of word.

Perhaps you dislike the word because every time you read it (and you read it a lot, trust me) you “say” the word in your thoughts. “Everywhere” you turn to you’ll always find the word blog.
I don’t really dislike it, sure I get tired of hearing it sometimes but it’s not my least favorite word. I find flickr more annoying to pronounce, specially when I try to say it to Portuguese friends so that they understand how to spell it.

I think it has more to do with the pronunciation. It sounds so much like blah…or maybe something a Klingon from Star Trek would say: bla’guh. Either way, as much as I understand the history of the word, I don’t like it as a title for something I pride myself in doing. Though, I suppose seeing and hearing it all the time doesn’t help…

I have to agree with you dave, I don’t really like the word. To me it is just shows how lazy people are getting when they have to cut syllables off of words.

How about pronouncing it differently?
B (as in the letter) log (Bilog).
Sounds a bit better, I think…

That does sound a bit better, but I am sure blawggers would go “what’s wrong with that guy…why does he keep saying bilog?” ![]()
