I replaced my old gear with Intel's Core2 Duo technology too but what's really exciting is what's coming down the road: (1) more cores and (3) software that takes advantage of these faster chips.

My (2) would've been 64 bits but developers seem very slow to adopt it ; )

You are right on all your points of course, but my biggest concern was getting the biggest bang for my buck right now, but making sure that I have an upgrade path. In the lifetime of this computer, I will probably NEVER upgrade the video card, but I can add another stick of ram, replace or add new hard drives and optical drives, and maybe even get a better Core 2 Duo processor...(doubtful though), but I will not upgrade the video card until I am ready to buy a whole new machine. That is why I went to the 7900 rather than something cheaper. I want this computer to last around 3-4 years on this video card.

And I don’t ever want to go to Vista. I will probably be heading from XP to Linux. But that’s just me.

You, and a whole lot of other people :D
If I want Vista, I'll find myself a nice XP-theme, hehehe. But of course, that's just me ;)

But if you want it to be as inexpensive as possible, but have a nice "snappy" system for Photoshop and internet, why not take a cheaper card? Photoshop benefits from a fast videocard, but it benefits more of extra ram and a faster HD (if possible) I think. That would save you about 50-100 US Dollars if I'm not mistaken, and the 7600 or 7800 is a good enough card I think :)

Mark - Shoosh you! :P Hopefully, everything works out wel.

Jacob - Should be alright if it all works out. Regretting buying it now that I am getting so much help fixing my old rig...

Elliot - Well then... aren't you lucky...lol. It won't be as sexy a beast as yours, but these new parts are already more than I can afford.

Joram - I probably should have gotten a XFX, but again it was about being as inexpensive as possible. Not going to be using it for gaming or anything...lol. I am a casual gamer, but I use photoshop here and there, and do lots of intensive web browsing. You should see how much ram and whatnot that Firefox uses for me...lol.

I will be getting another 1GB stick of ram, when I can afford it. And I don't ever want to go to Vista. I will probably be heading from XP to Linux. But that's just me.

Nice setup, although I would change 2 things personally ;)
I'd change the videocard to an XFX Geforce 7900... it's usually a tad faster,
but my personal experience is that it's a bit more solid as well.

And from the looks of your setup you're going to use it for graphics as well
(gaming, video-editing or something). If so, I'd definately take 2Gb RAM.
Especially since you'll probably get Vista with it as well, which is a memory-hog.

But I like the motherboard and cpu though; It would be tempting to trade it
for my DFI Lanparty + AMD64 3800 :)

That's almost identical to the system parts I just bought about three months ago. The only difference is that I opted for 4 1GB RAM modules, an intel MOBO w/ raid, and the E6600 and ATI 9000XT. I think you'll like the Core Duo 2 ;)
