Sometimes while using my Windows XP machines, I think about how nice it would be to boot up into Mac OS X.
I looked over at Apple’s website and put together what I’d purchase, if I had the extra money. Yes, that’s right, its still an “extra” for me at this point. Though they are enticing me more and more every year.
My first choice would of course be a MacBook Pro 15-inch Widescreen machine.
Specs
Price: $2,799.00 CDN
For my second choice, I would go for a nice iMac. I still don’t like how the screen and computer are integrated into one unit, but having seen an older 20-inch unit, I have to say that it was fun to play with, the screen real estate was nice, and it performed well.
Specs
Price: $2,258.00
Honestly though, I think the second choice is probably the more realistic one, as it is over $500 cheaper, and I already have a notebook. It’s an IBM too, so I can’t really complain.
I guess really what it comes down to is the fact that I am in a PC world. When I get my next computer it will just be a tower because I already have a keyboard, mouse, and monitor I like. I don’t need a built in webcam because I have a decent webcam and digital camera. I don’t need new speakers, or printer, or anything other than a new tower, and while Apple does have its Mac Pro’s, I think I will stick with what I can build myself. (I don’t like the cheese grater look.)

Well, if u’re using windows XP, and wanna try some emulation look-nice-design tranformation of MacOSX, just try this cool program:

I have a self-built PC (mediacentercase, packed with powerhouse-items, lol!), and a MacBook with 1Gb ram. All the graphics I make, from fiddling in Illustrator and Photoshop, to using Smultron for my websites, I keep grabbing my Mac. For some reason it just “feels” right to use a Mac for those things.
I do use my PC though, but primarily for games, movies, downloads and perhaps some fiddling in Painter (that program seriously hungers for a nice videocard).
But you could buy a MacBook Pro, ditch your own IBM-laptop, and use BootCamp to run both Mac OSX and Windows on the MacBook Pro
You can hook that laptop onto your bigger monitor if you like, and use it as a desktop. Best of both worlds ![]()

I’d suggest that you keep an eye here:

I did buy a 15″ Mac Book Pro (which I think you saw at one of the Ottawa weblogger meetups some time back), and I use Windows for web testing via Parallels - the best part of which is no rebooting.
I recently Freecycled my last official PC just to be rid of it.

If I were you I’d slice off the RAM upgrades (if there are any) in your two choices. There are much cheaper alternatives out there, and they aren’t less reliable.
And if you chose a MacBook Pro, but intend to use it a lot for blogging in Wifi hot-spots, then I’d choose the normal MacBook instead because of it’s extra hour of battery life, better portability and easiness on the pocket ![]()

Gotta have lots of ram, but yeah, Apple doesn’t make them cheap…at least not as cheap as they should be.
Basically though I’d like to get a Mac Mini, but I will wait as it should be “updated” again soon.
And I agree about the MacBook vs the MacBook Pro, but there is something fetching about having that “pro” name behind it. It is like getting the Powerbook rather than the iBook. I dunno… maybe its just me.

For the ram and hard drive, what I do is buy them separately at a store like BestBuy. Makes the cost go way down. ![]()
