I wanted to start a meetup in London, Ontario when I moved here to have locals interested in blogging, podcasting and video casting come out and talk about their experiences and learn from each other, but alas, Meetup.com costs around $150 a year (If I pay in advance) for me to organize such a group using their site.
How ridiculous is it that I’d need to pay $150 for a year of being able to organize a meetup group? That money could go to securing a venue (though I know its not much, $12.50 each month for reserving the group a section of tables is something), or promoting the group.
I could create a website using WordPress and some forum software that would be equally good at organizing the events, allowing communication, and posting images of the monthly meetings.
I would really love to find some more people in London interested in blogging, podcasting and video casting, so if you live in London, Ontario Canada and are interested, please let me know as I would love to organize something. Also, if anyone has any tips on organizing a meetup style group, please let me know. I really want to do this, and need all the help I can get.

It wouldn’t bother me if it was like $25 a year, then I could shell out the cash to take a chance at making meetups work. Maybe it is time for a new site. ![]()

A meetup could be a lot of fun. You can find a bunch of London bloggers who may be interested at
http://www.localthoughts.com/node/4/
which is a site I have been building in my spare time.
Another option would be for you to show up at one of the CS dept pub nights.

It is very imformal. Basically just a bunch of geek talk. This week Mike is organizing a movie night in the conference room at the Grad club (pub on campus).
