Well, after an amazing run of bad luck, Sabine and I finally have our stuff moved over to our new, smaller, and cheaper apartment.

U-haul, a large moving equipment rental company, over reserved the truck we wanted…not with one other person, not with two other people, but there were seven people reserved for the same vehicle. We never got a U-haul truck.

After that whole thing failed we went to look for a “man with truck” and were quoted $150 for two men for two hours, but then a move ran long for them, and they could not move us. They mentioned they could come the next day, but they would only be running three men crews which would boost our move price to around $270. We declined as that is too much for a small move like ours.

Next we tried to rent a van from Hertz, and after confirming everything, and heading downtown to get it, we were told we are not old enough to rent a van. Three years too young. We were offered a Pontiac Grand Prix, which is a pretty large car, and so we took it so we could move totes back and forth, which would only leave us the larger items to move somehow.

My brother, who was supposed to help us move, was busy watching his daughter. The soonest we would be able to get him would be three in the afternoon. Sabine and I were slow at moving everything, and we were tired, and our spirits were pretty much crushed. We were beyond crying, and we just continued to push through.

That is when our luck seemed to start to change. The Grand Prix was a great workhorse, and we were moving a load every thirty minutes. When we got back from unloading a load, there was a message on the answering machine saying “Hey Dave, mom came over and can take care of Riley, if you need my help moving, I can now…”

It was music to our ears. Sabine and I jumped up and down. We jumped in the car and picked him up. Between the three of us, things started to move much faster, and the apartment was pretty much cleared out other than the cat, computer, tables, chairs, sofa, and our bed. We were pretty happy about this, but still stressed as the car could not transport our bigger items.

We then contacted my dad, who was nice enough to come into town, an hour drive for him, to help us do a load in a loaner car he has that he hooked a trailer to. It was the biggest turning point of the night as we were able to move all the rest of our stuff, and with the extra set of hands, we were able to move the furniture pretty quick.

All of our stuff is now in the new apartment. The apartment is a mess, our phone is not hooked up in the new place until later today, and the internet does not get set up until tomorrow.

My dad will be picking me up today to get a hand doing some stuff around his place today, but it will be worth it as he helped us out when we really needed it. Now we have to get unpacked, and organized as we get started at our new place. We also have to clean the old place, as lots of dust and dirt was found under certain things in our old apartment, and we want it to be in the same condition we move in so we don’t get charged anything and can leave on good terms.
