As I begin my trip, I have to leave Sabine, my fiance, behind. Getting everything ready to go was easy, but leaving is a bit harder. I haven’t had to go on a trip by myself in quite some time.
Arriving at the airport, we look around for change as Sabine would like to come in and sit with me for a little while before I leave.
We check in at the front desk, and realize that I can’t bring my water or my ginger ale on the plane as there are still restrictions in place.
How annoying is that? So we sit down in front of the security checkpoint and I drink some water, and ginger ale. It calms my stomach. I say goodbye to Sabine and go through security.
Nothing beeps as I go through, and so I am allowed to quickly pick up my things and move on. The terminal starts to fill with people waiting their flight.
I have a connection flight to catch in Winnipeg. I wish I could have visited there for a while. This whole trip feels like it is going to be over fairly fast, as I leave today and come back just three short days from now.
Arriving in Winnipeg was fine, but the descent from 40,000 feet, made my left ear hurt pretty bad. I don’t enjoy the descent at all. I guess that is part of the travelling experience for me. It definetly leaves you a little disoriented having only one ear to hear normally out of.
So finally I board onto the next plane in my journey, only to realize that there are two of us with the same seat assignment. I call a stewardess over and she fixes the problem. I move four seats back, away from two babies, one that was beside me and one that was one seat in front of me. I couldn’t have been happier.
The second plane, unlike the first didn’t have a small embedded television screen. This meant that I had to use my laptop to watch a video to pass the time.
I almost don’t want to go to the supper any longer after all this travelling. Six hours on a plane is just too darn long. Especially, if you plan on attending an event after the flights.
Another thing that has been bothering me is the fact that the seats are so small and close together. You can tell that they wanted to cram as many people on the plane as possible. There is no knee room for me, and no waist room. I am a fairly big person, but not that much over the average. I couldn’t imagine that a person any taller or heavier set than myself could ever fly comfortly on a plane like this.
I understand why they do this, but it makes me wish I could have taken a different mode of transportation. While going on a bus wouldn’t have given me any more room, and would have taken a lot longer, a train always seems to be rather spacious, though again, compared to flying the time to go across the country would be much longer.
Maybe next time I need to fly, I will be well off enough to pay for some better seats. There is no first class or anything on this airplane, but I know certain ones from Air Canada and whatnot provide such extras, for a much higher price of course.
I went with West Jet because it was the most inexpensive. I guess sometimes you get what you pay for. Did I mention there was no in flight meal on either leg of my journey? Don’t get me started on that though.
All in all, other than the discomforts, this has been a relatively simple, and not totally unpleasant journey. Hopefully, my luggage is at the other side when I land. I’d hate if I made the connecting flight and it didn’t.
I got my luggage from the thing that spits out the luggage. The pain in my ear when the airplane landed was just as bad as the first landing. I am going to have to get ear plugs for the return voyage.
Once arriving, I jumped online in the terminal and found an airport nearby. I was originally planning to go to the Northern Voice supper event, but my plane got in at the same time it started, and by the time the taxi brought me over, it would have been 20 minutes into the event, and besides, I really felt horrible. To me, it was ten in the evening and I hadn’t eaten almost all day.
I went to the Days Inn and got a room. It has two queen size beds, which makes me laugh as I am only one person.
Hoping to wake up really early tomorrow to get my MooseCamp groove on. See you all there.
