I have been trying to reduce the amount of sugar I ingest by switching over to the alternatives because I don’t want to have to give up the things I love just to lose a few pounds. Early on I tried NutraSweet products, which have aspartame in them, and like most of my family, if I eat or drink too many things with aspartame, I begin to get really bad headaches, sometimes to the point of migraines, and so I couldn’t really continue to punish myself that way, so I went back to the regular juices that didn’t have any additional sugar added. It was my happy medium. Then I heard about Nestea’s Splenda drinks that didn’t use aspartame, but instead sweetened using real sugar that was changed so that it had the sweetening effect, without the bad side effects of real sugar.
I couldn’t buy the Splenda drinks fast enough, and what happened? I started getting head aches again, and oddly enough, I started feeling a little more negative and lethargic, at first I thought it was the weather, but after a while, it didn’t make sense.
I looked up what Splenda actually is, and really it is sucralose. Sucralose is a chlorinated sucrose derivative used as an artificial sweetener. I looked up sucralose side effects, and what did I find? A whole list of sites, blogs, medical journals, news paper articles all saying the same thing: sucralose may have side effects!
Those side effects include:
So we live in a world where the real sugar makes you fat, and the fake sugar, if you are sensitive to it, can cause you a whole world of pain and issues.
What is someone like me, with nearly no will power, supposed to do? I am addicted to the sweet flavours of Barq’s Root Beer and other drinks, but the low calorie, no sugar products give me head aches and cause mild depression.
And before you say, just drink more water, I have tried that in the past. My cravings get to the point where I binge drink on Coke Cola or Barq’s Root Beer, and that is never good. Are there low sugar juices that don’t make use of all this chemical crap, that are still good to drink? Are the natural sugars in regular juice so bad that I should be avoiding them?
If you have experience in any of these issues, please let me know.

Screw it and just go for sugar. Cut back something else or exercise more.

When you eat foods that don’t peak or crash your sugar levels you don’t crave or binge on sugar drinks.
What do I do? A combination of both.
What do I drink?
60ml lemon juice *concentrate* mixed with 1L water. No sugar. Minimum 2L a day.
Best wishes and let us know how it goes.
Cheers,

Missing from above:
Dave,
Take a look at this website: http://www.sethroberts.net/
When you feel full on empty calories [but not sugar] you eat less than what your body needs.

Well, i wás going to say “drink more water”, but I guess that won’t cut it
But my collegue is working on losing massive amounts of weight because she wants to get pregnant, which ment that she had to cut back on a lot of sugar amongst other things. Basically what she does is just find natural alternatives, and no chemical counterparts. Like if she wants to sweeten her tea, she just uses honey (not the chemical crap, but the stuff you can get at stores like Trader Joes), if she craves chocolate she takes the purest chocolate she can get (contains less chemicals, especially the Swiss super pure stuff), and if she wants something like a coke, she just has fresh juice or anything natural that contains high amounts of natural sweeteners
I hope that helps
But what about doing a little bit of running or other kinds of sports? That should help a lot I think… especially for us internet-lovers, hehe. It helped me gain weight in no time at all (yes, I actually want to gain instead of lose it, hehe).

Yeah, I think that is what I will have to do… And the good thing… I get to drink real fruit juices again, meaning I get whatever benefits that come along with that.

I have found that drinking a minimum of two liters of water a day and maybe having a can of regular pop is not going to kill you. Not only does it make sure all the salts and stuff are flushed out of your body, but it also makes sure, for people like you that crave sweet drinks, that you are not cutting it out completly from your life.
I don’t know if you have tired this, but it seems to be working for me.
Oh ya, just between you and I, I’ve lost 50lbs since May 5th, 2007.
Go me!

I can strongly recommend Stevia. It seemed to help me cut sugar out of my diet.

I second with SEO.
I ONLY use Stevia products for sweetners.
Stevia is a plant that is native to the rainforests, is 30x sweeter than sugar AND is safe for diabetics because it helps regulate the blood sugar. Go to www.SweetLeaf.com and you’ll learn more about it….good luck!
