I have been reading my own blog and blogs that others have written and I must say I am a little unimpressed with my content in comparision to what others have written.

I watch as others write nearly fanatical articles about a variety of topics and they way they are written more or less hold you there. I have a listing of blogs I check every day, and I don’t think I am creating the same kind of interest or draw with the content here.

I have been trying to rack my brain thinking of what I am good at, and what I know that could use some writing on, but really there is not all that much. I consider myself a generalist, not a specialist in any one field, and while that might make me more knowledgeable in a variety of subjects, it is very hard for me to get into detailed conversations about any one topic.

I know personal blogs are sometimes a nice read, but they are usually only drawing in a small audience. I am hoping to go professional with my blogging someday, and so I have to find ways to push myself harder on finding and writing on more topics of general interest if I am ever to reach my goal.

Working as a guest blogger on Darren’s (Problogger.net) Breaking News Blog for Laptops is so much fun because I only need to concentrate on one subject and most of the content is just snippits of content from a variety of other sites as fast as I can find them so that all sorts of information on Laptops is at one site, one blog.

I don’t see this site turning into a one general topic blog any time soon, nor do I want to republish massive amounts of news from other sites. Creating new content is where I believe blogging could really excel, especially since all of the “top” bloggers I have read are all about creating new and interesting content, not just regurgitating content from other places. Sure they may comment on news from time to time as in all personal blogs, what happens in the world should be interesting, and sometimes adding information that is outside the normal blogging pattern draws new people in, but they create, stories, information, tutorials, and help people understand a variety of subjects.

So far all I have really helped people understand is how hard it is to find a job in Ottawa, and that I am interested in the Next Gen Consoles and what they might bring. I need to do more, I need to bring more to this site for my readers (that’d be you).
